The Asado of the year!

Tapa de asado
Okay, this one is for you Kevin. Yesterday was one of the best days I've had in Argentina. We planned a HUGE asado at the residecny where I live. There is a large group of students here in Cordoba studying from Texas, and they are leaving next week. We planned an asado at 8:30pm to celebrate meeting new friends, and wishing a safe farewell. Usually, there are about 10-15 people at an asado (which is a lot.) An asado (if you don't already know) A great asado in Argentina is unlike any other BBQ party that is thrown in any other part of the world. A celebration of sorts with friends and family while feasting on large amounts of barbecued meats. Where the host is constantly eying guests to see if a glass needs to be refilled or another piece of meat needs to be sliced. Great conversation is the most important ingredient. It is customary for the one who organizes the asado to buy everything needed, then accept payment from everyone that attends. In Argentina, you NEVER.. NEVER go to an asado or to someone's house for dinner, without paying for your portion. Yesterday, it was 20 pesos/person which is very reasonable. Plus, you have to remember that Argentina has some of the best beef in the world.
An asado lasts for hours, since it takes a few hours to cook through all of the meat.. and enjoy many different cuts of beef. The organizer spends the whole night tending to the meat, and serving different cuts throughout the night. The asado that we had yesterday, was so incredibly large, that we needed 4 tables pushed together, and a desk in the corner to fit two more people. We ran out of silverware, plates, cups and even chairs. Usually, asados aren't that large, but we invited many friends to wish a farewell to the american students. We enjoyed many different cuts of beef, potatoes, and a salad made of onions and tomatoes. It was so much fun, and lasted until after midnight. Here are some pictures!

This large group are a bunch of our neighbors (that I've never met before.) They sang a bunch of songs in Spanish where the 35+ people were singing along.. it was an awesome experience!
